About …

About. It seems like such an innocuous little word, doesn’t it? But ah, the questions it raises.

About What?

Life is a fusion of interests and energies, a crossroads of many different pathways of thought. This blog is my own personal attempt of living into that messiness as I share my wide-ranging interests, opinions, and maybe even a little knowledge with the world. I don’t claim to be an expert of any sorts, so by no means should you consider this an authoritative source for anything. Informational perhaps, but not authoritative. The main four themes that are covered in this blog: cars, Christianity, computers, and cooking, are simply four areas in my life that I am passionate about. Sometimes they interact, intersect, and inform each another. Other times they don’t have much to do with one other at all. My life does consist of more than just these four areas, and at times other interests will spill over into this space as well. That’s what the “more” category is for.

About Who?

Describing oneself is always a clumsy and awkward endeavor, don’t you think? It’s hard to know where to start. I am Matthew E. McKimmy, a married young man in my late twentysomethings living in Richmond Indiana. Despite living in the Midwest, home for me will always be Virginia, particularly the Southwest area around Roanoke and Blacksburg. In May 2008 graduated from Bethany Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. Bethany is the graduate school of the Church of the Brethren, the Christian denomination that I am a part of. My wife Becky and I are both graduates of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, commonly referred to as Virginia Tech. My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Arts is in the field of Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Science and Technology Studies and a minor in Religious Studies (whew!) In addition to my interests that are the primary foci of this blog I am also a lover of the great outdoors, especially hiking, backpacking, camping, and biking.

About Why?

Why does anyone blog? I suppose there are probably myriad various reasons. Some blog for money, some blog for fame, others blog just to hear themselves talk (or at least it seems that way!) I’d like to think that I blog to help make the world a better place, but I think that is probably a bit of an overstatement. At the very least, I blog as a way of sharing what I have with others. Whether it’s sharing information, opinion, insight, or experience, I think that it’s the least I can do to contribute to the blogosphere and the internet in general. Part of what makes the internet so great is that it’s a medium through which people from all walks of life from around the world can share information and knowledge as we learn from one another. Just think of this blog as my way of giving back for everything I’ve received from the vastness that is the internet.
