Personally I love RSS. I have a tendency to scan headlines for interesting articles to read. Having to go to each website and pick through page after page of full length articles only to end up reading one or two is much less convenient than having them all sorted and ordered by category for me in my GoogleReader.

It also saves me from having to repeatedly check a website for updates. Using RSS, I know with a quick glance whether a site that I am interested in has updated their content.

You know, I still like shopping over having things shipped to me and I still prefer to do the websurfing most of the time.

What I do like RSS for I think of more as DVR style. I pick up radio programs and the like that are being sent out, but this is only for things I am certain I will love and even then I don't often get around to them.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but bookmarks work pretty well especially when they're well integrated into a system like the speed dial function on Opera <a>Opera's Flash tutorial for the Speed Dial function</a>.

I also find helpful the Session feature available through Opera which will remember websites I have open through tabs. I can even set Opera to open a particular set of tabs everytime I open the browser. This feature can be particularly helpful when it comes to doing research--I always save my researching sessions as <i>sessions</i>. This same feature is available to a lesser extent through at least one firefox add-on.

As my final plug for the Opera browser I would like to point out that it has an integrated RSS feed reader which is based on its mail client.

@Chris - Thanks for the kind words Chris. It is important for those of us who are more "web savvy" to help educate those who are still learning. In addition to wanting to see my RSS feeds put to good use, I just love using RSS myself and want to help others to experience this extremely efficient way of using the web!

Thanks for this. The screenshots are especially helpful, and would have been a nice addition to a similar kind of blog entry I put up a few years ago:

There's certainly an element of wanting more people to use RSS so that the RSS feeds we publish have more value and utility. Thanks for doing your part to educate!
